Some dishes, like steamed lobster or grilled filet mignon, are so delicious that many people would eat them every night if only they could afford to! Shiitake mushrooms are another such delicacy, but unlike filet and lobster, we are here to tell you that, with a little work, you can grow this meaty, succulent treat right in your backyard. Growing your own Shiitake mushrooms is not difficult or expensive, and we want to show you how to do it!
Here at Oak Shade Farm we have been growing and selling Shiitake mushrooms for over 35 years. On March 2nd we will be inoculating this year’s mushroom logs, and we invite you to come to the farm to watch the process and learn what you need to know to grow them yourself. Our Open Farm Days each have a theme….for March it is Shiitake mushrooms…but you will be welcome even if you only want to enjoy the beautiful mountain views, and the firepit (weather permitting). We also invite you to explore the variety of handmade items made here on the farm that are available in our farm shop, and maybe learn something about the wide variety of activities we undertake to keep our farm going.
Please join us, on March 2 between 1- 5pm. We will have informational sessions on Shiitake log inoculation and management all afternoon. For planning purposes we would love to hear back from you if you are intending to join us.
