Weekend Warriors
June 20, 2024 Places to Stay Things to Do
Those that want a little taste of everything the Great Outdoors has to offer can pack it all into a weekend in Culpeper. Hike, bike and kayak nearly year-round (weather permitting) in some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable.
Load Up
Kick off the morning with a hearty breakfast at Country Cafe, a cozy breakfast restaurant open daily. The Country Cafe offers country-style, home cooked meals and desserts made fresh daily.
Roll Out
Once you are thoroughly fed, head to the Burke Farm Trail System, a privately owned 300-acre trail system. Throughout this system, mountain bikers of any skill level, beginner through advanced, will find a trail to fit their needs. Trails include bridges, log obstacles, creek crossings, steep climbs and rock gardens.
Rest Easy
There are plenty of places to rest your head after an active day in Culpeper, but if you want to maximize your overall nature-focused experience, consider the Hazel River Inn Bed and Breakfast. Located toward the Blue Ridge Mountains, this intimate 100-year-old inn offers comfortable rooms, great views and beautifully maintained gardens across five acres to stroll through. Larger groups (6 or more) can also make reservations at the gourmet restaurant on site.
Hike Shenandoah
For day two, lace up your hiking boots and take a quick drive toward Shenandoah National Park. For those looking for a local favorite, Old Rag Mountain Loop is just 35 minutes from Culpeper and offers a popular 8.6-mile trail with multiple activity options and river crossing. But there are plenty of trails to choose among, ranging from kid-friendly 3- or 4-milers to strenuous 20-mile scrambles. Regardless of your destination, be sure to carry plenty of water and pack a lunch!
