An Evening with Germanna: Archaeology Discoveries of 2023

October 19, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Tune in from wherever you are for a fascinating presentation with Historic Germanna’s Archaeology Department on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00pm ET to hear about this year’s discoveries at the archaeological dig sites!

From clearing the ruins of Alexander Spotswood’s “Enchanted Castle” to unearthing the areas believed to be Fort Germanna and the original courthouse for Spotsylvania, attendees of this virtual program will learn about not only the impact of Alexander Spotswood and the early German immigrants to the area but also the people who came before.

Additionally, we look forward to hearing from guest, Cameron Walker, who will speak on the faunal analysis done on faunal remains (animal bone and shell) collected prior to the start of the current season. Cameron was a student in our first Field School session held in 2016, returning as an Intern for Germanna’s 2017 field season. He has since attended Graduate School at Florida State University, receiving his Master’s in 2019. Cameron is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland, specializing in zooarchaeology (or the study of animal remains).

This is a Pay-What-You-Can event. Your donation of any amount will go directly to supporting the work of Historic Germanna and its programs.
