Adventure is the destination. While some know it as wanderlust, in Virginia we call it WanderLOVE. It’s about reconnecting with what you love. Although traveling in Virginia looks a bit different this year, there’s still much to be seen and to do in the beautiful outdoors over the course of a weekend road trip–especially in Culpeper! Adventure Awaits
Challenge seekers, head to Burke Farm Trail to ride mountain biking trails of all levels–just make sure you contact the Culpeper Area Mountain Bike Organization (CAMBO) to get access to these trails prior to your visit. Or visit the recently opened Rockwater Park for 32 acres of multi-use trails, climbing and even a Fitcore Extreme obstacle course. Hikers will enjoy the variety of trails Yowell Meadow Park provides while learning about Culpeper history along the way. The park also features an impressively renovated skate park facility for the most extreme skateboard enthusiasts.
Test the Waters
Culpeper’s regional rivers and lakes are open for a relaxing cruise or a more action-packed Rapidan ride. Self-explore on the Rapidan river–canoe, tube, and kayak with options and rapid levels for beginners and advanced riders alike. Trail rides, bike rentals, a fishing pond and more recreational activities are also available. Bring your boat if you’re looking to fish in Lake Culpeper, which offers plenty of largemouth bass and bluegill, and more catfish than any Northern Virginia lake around.
Off Beat Entertainment
Culpeper abounds with some of the more unique experiences in the region, destined to pique the interest of even the most curious folk. Visit with horses and cattle at Andora Farms, where tours of the farm can be tailored to traveler interests. Cibola Farms centers around Virginia bison and provides a variety of leather goods, rustic decor and fresh cuts of meats for purchase. If you’re looking for thrill, a gentle flight can be found at Skyline Heli where visitors can experience breathtaking views of the Piedmont landscape from above.
