Fleetwood C.1736 And C.1827
Fleetwood is built on land which was awarded to Johannes Fischbach as a king’s grant in 1730. It is a classic example of the Piedmont Virginia farmstead. Some of Fischbach’s descendants were Revolutionary War patriots, and are buried in the large family cemetery on the grounds. Also in the cemetery are Civil War soldiers with unmarked graves, and many family members. Johannes Fischbach was the progenitor of five state governors, including James Lawson Kemper, of Virginia.
