African American History Downtown Walking Tour

The current stops along the trail take travelers to visit key buildings throughout the Town of Culpeper telling the stories of what was once there, including Dr. Elijah Barber’s Medical Office, which in 1931 was home to the first and at that time only African American doctor in greater Culpeper area.
Buildings on the trail include:
- Dr. Elijah Barber’s Medical Office – 226 East Davis St.
- Jennings Lunch and Pool Room – 110 South Commerce St.
- Lightfoot Building – 254 – 258 East Davis St.
- Piedmont Lodge No. 75, Colored Masons at the McCoy Building – 202 East Davis St.
- Skinny Love’s Barber Shop – 236 East Davis St.
- The Holmes-Taylor Building – 226 East Davis St.
- Pitts Theater – Pitts Movie Theatre – 305 S Main St.
