Five Fabulous Cycling Routes for Sight-Seeing Around Culpeper, VA Image

The gently rolling hills of Virginia’s Piedmont are a sight-seeing cyclist’s dream with the Blue Ridge Mountains as a glorious backdrop. Pedal the most scenic routes around Culpeper with a companion, because the selfie opportunities (and points of interest) abound. These will be experiences you’ll want to share with someone special.

First and foremost, we give a hearty nod to Culpeper Cycling for several route suggestions via RideWithGPS.

The Camel Ride

The Camel Ride is a 60-mile circle around Culpeper that includes … wait for it … camels! There are climbing challenges, but nothing drastic enough to dissuade a seasoned cyclist. There are long, easy sections, tree-lined sections, and we bet the Hazel River will beckon you to stop and appreciate its gurgling.

The route begins and ends on Lovers Lane at the junction with Crossroads Parkway.

Points of Interest:

23-Mile Loop to Brandy Station

The 23-Mile Loop to Brandy Station (Festive 500 12/27) starts between Far Gohn and Beer Hound Brewing in downtown Culpeper, but you can certainly start at our visitor center inside the Historic Train Depot. We wouldn’t blame you a bit if you end your route at either brewery, however. Who couldn’t use a well-deserved craft beer after a nice ride?

This route overlaps a bit of the previous Camel Ride route, but is quite appealing with the inclusion of the downtown start and finish.

Points of Interest:

Green’s Corner Cruiser

Green’s Corner Cruiser is a loop clocking just under 18 miles in length, but we believe you’ll have time to stretch your legs before conquering even half of those 18 miles. Start and end at the Alanthus Road Park-and-Ride.

Points of Interest:

Hebron Valley

The west-of-Culpeper Hebron Valley route is 47 miles long and offers expansive views. Depending on your ride time, you may be treated to an incredible sunset. Start and end at Culpeper Sport and Fitness, but as Culpeper Cycling suggests, dinner in downtown Culpeper at Grass Rootes is a most pleasant place to unwind.

Points of Interest:

Culpeper to Sperryville Spirits Route

Another scenic western route is one we’ve crafted ourselves. We call it the Culpeper to Sperryville Spirits Route. It’s 45 miles in length and includes the incredible views along Route 231. Start and end at Mountain Run Winery.
