Artists are welcome to capture our beautiful landscape\, located in Hebron Valley\, with stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This open-air painting event lets artists render changing light and atmosphere quickly while playing with color and form using the “a la prima” or “wet on wet” technique. \nTickets are $35 for each artist and include unfettered access to the vineyard grounds\, a healthy lunch\, and your chance to exhibit your created work at the end of the day in our tasting room for the public to enjoy. \nThe tasting room will be open until 8pm to give the public a chance to admire the art produced that day.

Gayle was born and raised in New Orleans\, where her earliest memories involve drawing and a passion for animals. As a high school student\, Gayle earned a scholarship to the McCrady School of Fine and Applied Arts in the French Quarter. \nWhile raising her family\, Gayle also pursued her studies through art classes\, focusing on illustration\, photography\, and fine art at community colleges in the suburbs of Washington\, D.C. After relocating to Colorado\, she worked as an illustrator for Interweave Press. However\, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia called to her\, and Gayle moved back\, settling in Brightwood. \nGayle is comfortable with oils\, watercolors\, acrylics\, and graphics\, making it hard for her to choose which she enjoys the most. Nevertheless\, her first love is drawing. Gayle employs these mediums to capture her affection for nature\, animals\, and intriguing faces. \nStop by the tasting room to peruse her exquisite art!

Ann Douglas Irby will host a talk titled “Giving A Voice to our Most Vulnerable Children.” Ann Douglas is associated with Piedmont Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for children involved in court proceedings due to abuse and neglect. Piedmont CASA recruits\, trains\, and supervises volunteers who work to ensure that these children receive necessary medical care\, educational support\, and stable\, permanent homes.

In his engaging talk\, “FlipFlopper – James Madison’s Work on the Bill of Rights\,” Howell will explore how Madison evolved from opposing the Bill of Rights to becoming its most ardent advocate and “Father.” \nSterling Howell’s interest in James Madison and his political career began while working with the Education Department at Montpelier. “I took a part-time job there as a grad student at UVA\, which eventually turned into eight years of focused study on Madison’s political philosophy and his work creating\, promoting\, and defending the Constitution and Bill of Rights\,” Howell said. His role was to break down these complex ideas into accessible presentations\, tours\, and exhibits for the public. \nThis January Sip & Learn is the perfect opportunity for history enthusiasts and those curious about America’s founding to gather for an evening of thoughtful discussion\, fine wine and verjus\, and a deeper understanding of one of the nation’s most pivotal figures. Howell’s expertise and engaging storytelling are sure to leave attendees with a new perspective on James Madison.
