A lot is known about the four major battles that took place in Culpeper County but there are some lesser known battles also. The 1st Battle of Rappahannock Station August 22 – 25, 1862 and the 2nd Battle of Rappahannock Station that took place November 7, 1863. The 1st battle was a Confederate victory while the 2nd one was a Union victory. The battles took place along the Rappahannock River on the border of Culpeper and Fauquier Counties near the present day town of Remington.
The Battle of Morton’s Ford took place February 6 – 7, 1864. The outcome was inconclusive although it was considered more of a skirmish. The battlefield is on the border of Culpeper and Orange Counties. 6,000 Union and 2,000 Confederate forces were engaged in the battle.
