Lucy Robb Winston Works

Lucy Robb Winston Works was born In Culpeper County, Virginia on February 21, 1916.  Her grandparents were Lucien Dade Winston, Sr. and Elizabeth McNeil Boddie. The little village of Winston was a dream for the couple to build a community. Lucy’s grandmother, Elizabeth had brains, drive, and money. Her family built a home, a shop, a lumber mill, and a post office that opened in 1887. They donated land to the Orange and Alexandria railroad for tracks with the intent of building a train station. In 1907, the Winstons donated land for Rising Zion Church and school just down the road from Winston Chapel. The Chapel was completed in 1909 in memory of a family member. The chapel and shop still stand today. Lucy Robb Winston was educated and strong in faith. She was not your average farmer’s wife. She traveled to Europe, New York City and shopped in Washington, D.C.  Lucy was a artist, worked with her husband’s ministry to alcoholics and she was a librarian at a theological seminary.  She passed away in November 2016.
