Library of Congress: Packard Campus Theater

Located approximately 75 miles outside of Washington D.C. tucked in the hillside in Culpeper, Virginia visitors can catch a free moving screening at the Library of Congress: Packard Campus Theater. Originally opened in 1969 the facility was constructed as a bunker to house enough U.S. currency to replenish the cash supply east of the Mississippi River during the Cold War in the case of a catastrophic event. This 45 acre campus is home to one of the largest audio visual and sound recording archives in the United States.

The theater can seat over 200 guests and is equipped to project both nitrate film and modern digital cinema. For silent films the theater showcases an organ that rises from under the stage too!
