Virginia Truffles

Virginia Truffles, is a truffle farm wholly owned and operated by the Martin family. Our farm isn’t just where we work—it’s our home. In 2007 we began our nursery, inoculating seedings with Tuber melanosporum. Our first acre of trees was planted shortly after.  Our first truffle was found in 2018. Production continues to increase every year. Truffle farming is a new industry, especially in the United States. We endeavor to constantly be at the forefront of all new science and techniques involving the cultivation of Truffle.

The second generation of the Virginia Truffles team consists of Vanessa & Adam Shea. Vanessa, who joined part-time in 2020, manages ecommerce, marketing, administration, farm management, and serves as a secondary truffle dog handler. In 2020, Virginia Truffles introduced agritourism, offering guided truffle hunts during the Black Perigord truffles harvest season from December to early March. Adam Shea, a formally trained chef, joined in 2022 as the culinary advisor, enhancing truffle treat offerings and assisting with farm maintenance.

The annual public truffle hunts have become a highly anticipated event, reflecting the team’s passion for sharing their work with Virginians and beyond.
