Oak Shade Farm Store

Oak Shade Farm is a place that we think is beautiful in many ways. We like to share our beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains with visitors. Over the years we have established a walking trail on the farm that features many native plants. We think you might enjoy walking this trail that leads to remnants of an earlier occupancy; the remains of early plantings, worn horseshoes, bent nails, bits of pottery…arrowheads. We have a small exhibit of items we have found here in our shop. Many lives were lived here. Some of the native trees on the trail are identified with signs
Having owned the property for 45 years and lived here for the past 37 years. We have cleared some woods, planted and nurtured Christmas trees, an organic vegetable garden, shiitake mushrooms, and cared for lots of honeybees. There are quiet places where we hook rugs, paint, weave, and do woodworking. For 28 years we took what we grew and made to the Farmers Market, to trade for cash and friendships. We don’t need vacations or weekends to get away. Our hearts are here.
As age has taken some of our strength and endurance we have drawn inward a bit to focus on our crafts. Our son Roger and his wife Ulrike have formed a woodworking business with us,… Mellowood. We saw our own logs, cure the wood in our kiln, and make lots of useful and whimsical items. We weave blankets for new babies, table runners, lap robes, and the like. We capture foxes, bears, possums, pussy willows, ferns, and much more, in our rugs…and paintings. ‘Work’ is a few steps away in our shop and studios…no commute.
It is our pleasure to share our farm and endeavors with others.
The Oak Shade Farm Store is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays to display our wares. Visits during the week can be made by special arrangements.
Come for a visit if you can, we look forward to it.
