Culpeper County Courthouse C.1870
The first Culpeper Courthouse was built in 1750 on the northeast corner of Main and Davis Streets. Declared unsafe in 1808, it was rebuilt on the same site. Today’s courthouse, built between 1870-74 at Davis and West Streets, replaced the second one which was torn down in 1871. The Confederate Monument was erected in 1911 by the citizens of Culpeper and the A.P. Hill Camp No. 2 Confederate Veterans. On the left and the right sides of the Culpeper County Courthouse, you will find two memorials commemorating those who fought and perished in Vietnam and the Civil War. The Culpeper County Courthouse is in use today with working courtrooms and County government offices. All visitors must pass through a security checkpoint upon entering at the rear of the building.
