Culpeper Tourism is proud to announce the installation of a new Road to Revolution Heritage Trail interpretive sign at The Inn at Raccoon Ford, adding a meaningful chapter to Virginia’s Revolutionary War story.

Located along the Rapidan River, the site holds significant historic value tied to the early movement for American independence. This new marker highlights the area’s connection to the beginning of the Yorktown Campaign, which led to the defeat of Cornwallis that prompted the end of the war.

The Road to Revolution Heritage Trail, a statewide initiative, links over 20 sites telling the stories of American Independence built on determination and sacrifice. The Inn at Raccoon Ford’s story underscores Culpeper’s enduring role in Virginia’s fight for freedom and enriches the visitor experience.

“This sign enhances Culpeper’s heritage tourism and helps tell the broader story of our ancestors’ path to independence. It provides visitors a deeper connection to the people and places that shaped the American Revolution,” said Paige Read, Director of Culpeper Tourism and Town Economic Development.

The public is invited to stop by The Inn at Raccoon Ford to view the new sign and explore the surrounding landscape where history comes alive.
