Lake Pelham is a water supply reservoir for the Town of Culpeper. It covers 255 acres with a combination of forested and open, sloped banks along its shores. Some residential development is occurring. If you like crappie and channel catfish Lake Culpeper is the place to go. This reservoir probably has more channel catfish per acre than any other lake in Northern Virginia. Other species include largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and pumpkinseed sunfish. It is also a decent lake for yellow perch.
A new public boat ramp was recently commissioned and can be accessed via Lake Pelham Drive off of Virginia Avenue in the Lakeview subdivision, near the dam. Public boat ramp signs (brown sign with ramp symbol) are posted along the route on Virginia Avenue. There is no bank fishing access - boats are pretty much mandatory. Electric motors only are allowed, a boating permit is required, and visitors must abide with VA State fishing rules and regulations.
- Effective 1/1/2023: Town no longer requires town fishing certificate to fish
- However, state fishing license is still required.
- Town boating permit required.
