Opened in February, 2019, the Carver 4-County Museum documents, celebrates and shares -  through in-person and virtual exhibits and programs - the educational, social, cultural and military history, and accomplishments of students, faculty and administrators of George Washington Carver Regional High School, the only institution of higher education that served minority children in the 4 four-county region of Culpeper, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock from 1948-1968.  Located in the original library of the school, the museum is a program of the George Washington Carver Regional Alumni Association, Inc. (GWCRHSAA, Inc., a 501(c)3 corporation).

Currently featuring:

  • When Women Use Their Power:10-month virtual series March – December, 2021, about local women of color who made an impact in the four-county region we serve (www.carver4cm.org)

    New Permanent Installation Coming in August, 2021

  • Origins:How High School Education Came to Culpeper to Serve Minority Children from Four Counties

    Previous Exhibits:

  • Firsts as Citizens:the first African American men in the four-county target area who registered to vote after the Civil War, in addition to the first women of color in Culpeper to register to vote after passage of the 19th Amendment.

  • Athlos:The Sports Program with Cheerleaders and Marching Bands from 1948-68 at George Washington Carver Regional High School

  • Journey:The Class of 1949:First graduating class of the Carver Regional High School

  • The Local Impact of Brown v. Board of Education on teachers and administrators at Carver

  • They Came to Teach:First teachers hired for the 1948-49 school year at the Carver Regional High School
