DESCRIPTION:Historic Germanna is once again excited to invite the public to see archaeology in action! On Saturday\, August 3\, 2024\, from 10am to 4pm\, our unique archaeological dig sites in Locust Grove will be open to the public. Get behind the scenes and meet Germanna’s archaeology team to learn more about this summer’s work in the field\, including efforts to unearth the original Spotsylvania Courthouse. This is the last opportunity this year to visit our excavation site\, which is only open a few times a season. \nGermanna’s archaeology site encompasses the ruins of the “Enchanted Castle” – home of Virginia’s Colonial-era Governor\, Alexander Spotswood – as well as the potential sites of the 1714 Fort Germanna that was constructed by the first German immigrants to The New World and the original Spotsylvania Court House. \nAdmission is free\, but due to limited parking at the dig site\, guests will be provided timed access passes on a first come\, first served basis. Guests should check in at the Historic Germanna Visitor Center at 2062 Germanna Highway\, Locust Grove\, 22508. There\, you will receive a timed ticket to access the archaeology site. The last timed ticket will be given at 3:00pm. \nEvent rain or shine unless severe weather. Please dress for outdoor walking including close-toed shoes and it is advised to bring water\, bug repellant\, and sun protection. \nFor more information\, please call 540-423-1700 or email info@germanna.org.

DESCRIPTION:Since 2005 the Culpeper Triathlon has been staged out of Mountain Run Lake Park at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. After a swim in Mountain Run Lake athletes roll out of T1 for a challenging bike course with great pavement and amazing views.  It’s not a PR bike course\, but it is so beautiful and a place you will come back to ride! The run course has great views of Mountain Run Lake\, the Blue Ridge mountains and is a rolling mix of flats and steady hills. There is so much to see and do in Culpeper\, VA. Main Street offers an eclectic mix of restaurants\, shopping and nightlife while the surrounding area offers great hiking\, biking\, fishing and more.

SUMMARY:2024 Annual Historic Germanna Reunion & Conference
DESCRIPTION:The event kicks off with registration and Public Archaeology Day at the Fort Germanna Visitor Center. Participants can view archaeology work in progress\, interact with resident archaeologists\, and view interesting artifacts.\nThere will be a welcome event at the Culpeper History Museum and a 3rd Thursday Concert Series in downtown Culpeper\, Virginia.\nThe second day will feature guided Heritage Tours focusing on the 1714 First Colony or the 1717 Second Colony. The evening will include a banquet and silent auction at the Lake of the Woods Club House.\nParticipants can also enjoy VIP tours of Salubria\, a Georgian-style historic property\, and a festive Oktoberfest at the Old House Winery.\nThe third day will have a Historical and Genealogical Conference with various speaker sessions\, including discussions on preservation\, DNA in genealogy\, and Historic Germanna’s strategic plan. This event will be held at The Refinery in Downtown Culpeper. There is a large parking area adjacent to the venue. You can order a box lunch or you can explore the many lunch options within a few blocks in Culpeper’s vibrant downtown.\nThe final day will involve a worship service at Hebron Lutheran Church followed by a Sunday Southern Church lunch\, and updates on the Hebron Church 1740 beam restoration.\n\n\n\n

We’ve partnered with Hero’s Bridge to bring you an incredible night of music.\nLeroy has opened up for Major Country acts\, including the widely popular\, “The Band Steele”. While in the Army\, Leroy continued performing with local theater groups. In 2006\, he won the USAG Ansbach Military Idol competition. He is a published Nashville Songwriter with over 40 songs written.\nBlake\, best known for his original music\, classic covers and crowd engagement averages 25 shows per month sharing his original music across the globe. Blake’s EP was produced by Clint Black and Dwain Rowe of Restless Heart and Brooks & Dunn. Blake is currently working with Dwain Rowe and crew on their second project together which is set to release on all platforms late 2023. July is when we shear the trees to shape them for sale in December.\nSo please come to our Open Farm day on Saturday\, July 13\, from 1 to 5 pm and we will show you what goes into preparing for Christmas\, even in July. \nWe will demonstrate how to shear the trees\, how we make garland\, and how we make the ornaments and woodenware that we sell during Christmas. Our shiitake mushroom production\, and our weaving loom\, might also interest you\, and the firepit might be of interest if it is not too hot. Our Tree House shop will be open\, and cool\, as well. \nSo please come by for a visit. The farm looks very different in July than what you might have experienced during your Christmas visits.

DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered what happens at the museum after the doors are locked\, and the lights are turned out?\nWell here is your chance. The museum will be hosting a camp-in for children ages 8-12 where they get to spend the night at the museum. Participate in several hands-on activities that bring the past to life\, watch a movie complete with popcorn before heading off to bed\, and in the morning say goodbye with a tour of the caboose.\nYou can register individually or get a group of friends together and come. All children MUST be accompanied by a chaperone (21+). If coming as a group there MUST be 1 chaperone for every 4 children.
