DESCRIPTION:Magic is in the air! Get ready to be part of something extraordinary at Culpeper’s Wizard Weekend. It’s an event like no other\, and we want you to be there! \nThe Culpeper Wizarding Express Mini Escape Room! \nYou have taken the Culpeper Wizarding Express to the World Hexball Championships\, only to realize you left your lucky scarf on the train. You and your friends quickly dash back to the caboose\, where lost items are collected\, in the hopes of finding it. Unfortunately\, in your search\, the door locks trapping you inside. Can you find your lucky scarf and unlock the door before the train leaves the station? \nTaking place in an old caboose located in front of the museum\, you and your friends will have 30 minutes to try and solve several puzzles to find your lucky scarf and get out! \nThis escape room is recommended for individuals over the age of 10. Of course\, you know your children better than we do\, so younger people are allowed to participate\, but they may or may not find the experience engaging. \nAll participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The adult must have their own ticket or be 1 of the 6 for a group ticket. \nYou should plan on arriving about 5 minutes before your scheduled time. The puzzle will begin at the scheduled time. Because we need time between groups to reset and clean the room\, we have to start the clock on time. \nAll you need to bring are your wits and a sense of adventure. You will not need any tools; everything you need to solve the puzzles will be in the room. \n*Please note that the caboose is NOT handicap accessible. \n*It is an enclosed space with no electricity\, and it may become hot\, especially during the afternoon. \nEfforts will be made to try and keep the temperature down\, but be prepared for it to be warm inside. \nSpace is extremely limited\, and advanced registrations are required. The XC course begins and ends at Death Ridge Brewery and includes a significant portion of the Verdun Adventure Bound Cross Country Course. If you keep an eye out\, you might actually see some Emu and a Zebra (no\, really!) as the course cuts through a neighbor’s property.\nWhy 6K? Because that’s how an easy to follow and naturally flowing course measured out. We could have made it a 5K\, but it wouldn’t be as fun. 6K is 1000 meters better! NOTE: Course distance is approximate.\nThis race is an introduction to the wonderful beer of Death Ridge Brewery\, with all race proceeds going to support Verdun Adventure Bound. Verdun is an educational 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to support youth and adult personal growth incorporating experiential learning and stewardship of the land on its 67 acre retreat facility.\n​The surface varies from close cut grass to a short section of rough trail and several kilometers of the well groomed trail in Verdun. Verdun has a beautiful cross country course with just enough hills to make it interesting. Red Clay Suzie is a fictionalized memoir told through Jeffrey’s unique perspective as an outsider—a gay man living with a disability in a conservative family and community in the Deep South. Through the character of Philbet\, Jeffrey hopes to provide a “roadmap of sorts” for fellow outsiders. He wants them to understand that bullies are “paper predators” who only have power if it’s given to them\, and that their bodies\, imperfections and all\, are beautiful and precious. He encourages those on the fringes not to hide or withdraw\, assuring them there’s always a caring\, trustworthy person in their “concentric circles of humanity.” Above all\, he emphasizes that the quality of one’s mind and heart is what truly matters\, and that “love\, real love\, is never wrong.” This is the message he wished his younger self had known\, and it’s why he wrote Red Clay Suzie. \nBook signing and reading will be followed by Q&A session. Ten-percent of the tasting-room sales will benefit the Literacy Council of Madison County.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, July 1\, at 6:30 PM as the museum continues its lecture series! \nDuring Virginia’s struggle for independence in 1775\, Virginia’s Third Convention established Sixteen Virginia Military Districts\, including the Culpeper District (Counties of Orange\, Culpeper\, and Fauquier). Culpeper’s District quickly formed the Culpeper Regular Rifle Company and Minute Battalion in the Fall of 1775\, becoming the only fully manned combined Regular Rifle Company and Minute Battalion in Virginia. Culpeper’s quick actions in Virginia’s time of need\, more than any other portion of Virginia\, helped liberate Virginia from British rule by 1776\, thus aiding in saving the Revolution. How did they do it when other regions of Virginia could not? This presentation focuses on the important leadership within the Culpeper District\, which defined the Culpeper District as “The First to Organize\, First to Fight\, and First to Win.” \nThis program will be held at the museum.
