DESCRIPTION:The Culpeper Garden Club is hosting a National Garden Club Standard Flower Show at the Culpeper County Fieldhouse\, 16388 Competition Drive\, Culpeper\, from 1-3 PM on Wednesday\, May 7\, 2025. The Culpeper Chamber of Commerce will officially open the show with a ribbon cutting to celebrate the club’s 90th anniversary. The show is free and open to the public. \nThe theme of this year’s flower show\, ‘Designs of the Decades’ is in celebration of the 9 decades the Culpeper club has been in existence. There will be numerous entries of spring bulbs\, perennials and flowering shrubs – daffodils\, tulips\, iris and azaleas to name just a few. Attendees will enjoy seeing fabulous floral arrangements showcasing the talents of the club members. The designs will incorporate flowers and plant material found in the everyday garden to the exotic. \nIn addition\, special short presentations will be presented by horticulture specialists. Stephanie DeNicola of Culpeper Soil & Water will discuss the best home gardening practices\, such as soil testing\, water usage reduction and turning turf into wildflower plantings. Robert Myers\, James Madison’s Montpelier Horticulturist\, will discuss the history of the Annie DuPont Formal Garden and current interpretation and its maintenance. Ashley Appling\, Horticulture and Arborist Extension Agent\, will share information on how to successfully grow camellias in Central Piedmont. \nGardening enthusiasts will also enjoy perusing the new nursery stock offered for purchase by Windmill Heights Nursery and Willow Shade Nursery\, both located in Culpeper. \nThe Culpeper Garden Club Flower Show is a wonderful opportunity to mix and mingle with club members\, to learn more about the joy of gardening\, floral design and the club’s many contributions to the community.

Gayle was born and raised in New Orleans\, where her earliest memories involve drawing and a passion for animals. As a high school student\, Gayle earned a scholarship to the McCrady School of Fine and Applied Arts in the French Quarter. \nWhile raising her family\, Gayle also pursued her studies through art classes\, focusing on illustration\, photography\, and fine art at community colleges in the suburbs of Washington\, D.C. After relocating to Colorado\, she worked as an illustrator for Interweave Press. However\, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia called to her\, and Gayle moved back\, settling in Brightwood. \nGayle is comfortable with oils\, watercolors\, acrylics\, and graphics\, making it hard for her to choose which she enjoys the most. Nevertheless\, her first love is drawing. Gayle employs these mediums to capture her affection for nature\, animals\, and intriguing faces. \nStop by the tasting room to peruse her exquisite art!

DESCRIPTION:Join Historic Germanna as we partake in the nationwide cleanup of historic sites and battlefields by sprucing up Historic Salubria and its grounds. \nA variety of indoor and outdoor activities will be available\, including:\n-Cleaning up the Salubria Community Cemetery (clearing brush\, picking up deadfall\, cutting back saplings)\n-Repairing the split-rail fence (digging holes\, inserting fence posts)\n-Tidying up outside the house (picking up deadfall\, raking leaves)\n-Tidying up inside the house (sweeping\, dusting) \nAll participants will be treated to a special\, behind-the-scenes tour of Salubria with Historic Germanna staff. \nVolunteers should meet at the parking area beside Historic Salubria. Follow the gravel driveway through the gate\, and park near the modern cottage. We will convene near there. \nWe have some tools available\, but if you have your own\, bring it! We will be using clippers\, loppers\, brooms\, rakes\, dusters\, and shovels. Volunteers should also bring gloves and any other protective gear. Wear sturdy shoes\, long-sleeves and pants. \nIn case of inclement weather\, Park Day will be moved to Saturday May 3.

If spaces are available\, day-of registrations will be allowed at $10/kid and $20/adult.\nPayment is due at the time of registration through the registration link.\nThere will be food available for purchase from Zippy’s BBQ\, live music by Andrew Washington from 2-5pm\, barrel train rides running all afternoon ($3 cash to the train operator)\, a bounce house\, Sandy’s Face Painting\, and an onsite playground for all the littles to get out their Easter energy. Be sure to see if you can spot the Easter Bunny hopping around the hunt as well.\nThe winery is open all afternoon for participants and non-participants alike.\nHunt spaces are limited to 50 in each age group so be sure to register in advance to reserve your space!
