This open-air painting event lets artists render changing light and atmosphere quickly while playing with color and form using the “a la prima” or “wet on wet” technique. \nTickets are $35 for each artist and include unfettered access to the vineyard grounds\, a healthy lunch\, and your chance to exhibit your created work at the end of the day in our tasting room for the public to enjoy. \nThe tasting room will be open until 8pm to give the public a chance to admire the art produced that day.

DESCRIPTION:The Culpeper Garden Club is hosting a National Garden Club Standard Flower Show at the Culpeper County Fieldhouse\, 16388 Competition Drive\, Culpeper\, from 1-3 PM on Wednesday\, May 7\, 2025. The Culpeper Chamber of Commerce will officially open the show with a ribbon cutting to celebrate the club’s 90th anniversary. The show is free and open to the public. \nThe theme of this year’s flower show\, ‘Designs of the Decades’ is in celebration of the 9 decades the Culpeper club has been in existence. There will be numerous entries of spring bulbs\, perennials and flowering shrubs – daffodils\, tulips\, iris and azaleas to name just a few. Attendees will enjoy seeing fabulous floral arrangements showcasing the talents of the club members. The designs will incorporate flowers and plant material found in the everyday garden to the exotic. \nIn addition\, special short presentations will be presented by horticulture specialists. Stephanie DeNicola of Culpeper Soil & Water will discuss the best home gardening practices\, such as soil testing\, water usage reduction and turning turf into wildflower plantings. Robert Myers\, James Madison’s Montpelier Horticulturist\, will discuss the history of the Annie DuPont Formal Garden and current interpretation and its maintenance. Ashley Appling\, Horticulture and Arborist Extension Agent\, will share information on how to successfully grow camellias in Central Piedmont. \nGardening enthusiasts will also enjoy perusing the new nursery stock offered for purchase by Windmill Heights Nursery and Willow Shade Nursery\, both located in Culpeper. \nThe Culpeper Garden Club Flower Show is a wonderful opportunity to mix and mingle with club members\, to learn more about the joy of gardening\, floral design and the club’s many contributions to the community.

There\, runners will turn around and reverse course briefly. They will re-enter the park using the same trail and turn right to continue along the hard path in the park. They will finish the loop.

Red Clay Suzie is a fictionalized memoir told through Jeffrey’s unique perspective as an outsider—a gay man living with a disability in a conservative family and community in the Deep South. Through the character of Philbet\, Jeffrey hopes to provide a “roadmap of sorts” for fellow outsiders. He wants them to understand that bullies are “paper predators” who only have power if it’s given to them\, and that their bodies\, imperfections and all\, are beautiful and precious. He encourages those on the fringes not to hide or withdraw\, assuring them there’s always a caring\, trustworthy person in their “concentric circles of humanity.” Above all\, he emphasizes that the quality of one’s mind and heart is what truly matters\, and that “love\, real love\, is never wrong.” This is the message he wished his younger self had known\, and it’s why he wrote Red Clay Suzie. \nBook signing and reading will be followed by Q&A session.
