“Prelude to Yorktown 1781 — Lafayette vs. Cornwallis in Virginia”
Thursday, May 23rd, 6:30 pm, Mountain Run Winery’s Greenlee Tavern. Doors open at 6:00 pm.
Culpeper native, Andrew Gutowski, will discuss the Revolutionary War’s road to surrender. The culmination of the war came in Virginia in 1781. To most people this means only the October siege and victory at Yorktown. However, there is a bigger story of an intricate cat and mouse campaign of British vs American forces preceding Yorktown. It includes a great cast of characters, including Lafayette, Washington, Cornwallis, Benedict Arnold, Banastre Tarleton, and Thomas Jefferson. Come and also learn how Culpeper figured in the story of 1781, with echoes down to the present.
Free admission but reservations recommended as seating is limited. Contact the winery to reserve your seat.
