CAYA 5K Run for your Life
This year we are excited to announce that our motivational race speaker is wellness advocate, Chris Herren, founder of Herren Wellness, a residential substance use, wellness and recovery center that helps guests lead healthy, substance-free lives, with locations in Warrenton, VA and Seekonk, MA.
Herren was a high school basketball legend from Fall River, MA, who scored over 2,000 career points while at Durfee High School and was named to the 1994 McDonald’s All-American team. Chris went on to play at Boston College and Fresno State. He played two seasons in the NBA, including one with his hometown team, the Boston Celtics – and seven seasons overseas before losing everything to the disease of addiction.
Herren has been sober since August 1, 2008, and he shares his story nationally with the goal of making a positive difference in the lives of others.
CAYA programs include teaching ‘Revive’, an opioid overdose and Naloxone education program, supporting school clubs such as Herren Project, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), funding student teams to attend the youth alcohol and drug abuse conference (YADAPP), and After Prom Parties.
Proceeds from the Run For Your Life 5K will assist the CAYA Coalition in supporting prevention programs and reduce the stigma of addiction in our community.
The mission of the Come As You Are Coalition is to connect people who are impacted by addiction to support, treatment resources and to collaborate with community organizations to support local prevention programs in Culpeper and Fauquier Counties. For more information visit: www.cayacoalition.org
