Warbird Showcase Adds 2nd Day and Expands to include “Wings and Wheels” Car Show
In addition, the Showcase on Saturday will include a “Wings and Wheels” car show. While WWII warbirds are on static display and flying overhead, visitors to the event on Saturday will have the opportunity to see dozens of immaculately restored cars.
Antiques, hot rods, exotics, imports, and moderns, this Car Show is an open event for all petrol-heads to come out and show off their cars while World War II aircraft fly overhead. Prizes will be awarded in 10 different categories! Car show entries are available for $25 presale or $30 day-of-event. In addition, there is a unique opportunity to have your car photographed with the WWII TBM Avenger "Doris Mae" for $40 and spots are limited.
Car check-in will begin at 9 a.m. with gates opening at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Judging will begin at 2 p.m. and winners announced at 3 p.m. with the awarding of prizes.
Purchase tickets to enter your vehicle in the Car Show and to have a photo taken of your car and our TBM Avenger at Eventbrite. Search “Eventbrite Culpeper Car Show” in your browser or email CapitalWingCAF@gmail.com for a link or more information.
“Car Show enthusiasts are just as passionate about restoring, maintaining and operating their vehicles as we are about our WWII aircraft. So the Capital Wing decided to add a Car Show to our Warbird Showcase at the Culpeper Regional Airport on August 15. The airport has acres and acres of space, perfect for displaying both cars and airplanes” according to Pete Ballard, Assistant Adjutant of the Capital Wing. “Some of the cars on display will be much older, or newer, than the aircraft we fly, making for a fantastic contrast,” he said.
Appearing at the Showcase event will be the local Cruisin for Heroes, a local classic car group dedicated to supporting the Fisher House Foundation (https://fisherhouse.org/), a non-profit which builds comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world.
