Lange conjures up the juke-joint blues of the North Mississippi Hill Country. Akin to greats R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, Lange puts a strong emphasis on the “groove” with driving rhythms and percussion; playing drums with his feet when found without a sideman. His steady guitar riffs, few chord changes, and unconventional song structures combined with edgy slide playing on either a three-string cigar box guitar made by “some guy in Ohio” or his howling steel resonator is the real deal. Lange’s smooth Clapton-esque vocals compliment his highly original sound delivering American roots music in a familiar yet brand new way.
