Spring in Culpeper

When the flowers begin to bloom and the trees fill with new green leaves, you know it’s the perfect time to escape for a road trip.

Can we let you in on a little secret? Culpeper is one really awesome spring destination! Gardens are fresh and fragrant, sweet new farm animals are making their debut in the world, and patio dining is at the top of everyone’s to-do list. Come explore with us!

Out of the Ordinary

Cattle Drive at Andora Farm

Have you ever been on a cattle drive? We have the rare opportunity for you to join one at Andora Farm! Bring your trusty steed to Culpeper April 5-6, April 19-20, May 3-4, May 31-June 1, or July 12-13 and saddle up with resident and star of Best of America by Horseback, Tom Seay and his co-host Kristen Biscoe. More dates are available throughout the year.

What about foxhunting? Bull Run Hunt heads out for hunts every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, and special events create a more festive atmosphere. For example, hunter pace events, clay skeet shooting, and even weekend camping trail rides.

Festival Season

One of our favorite things about spring in Culpeper is the Gnarly Hops & Barley Fest, a celebration of craft beer – more of 70 brewers’ worth, actually. Live music sets the vibe for a day of fun with friends in downtown Culpeper on April 27.

Fun on the Farm

From learning where your food comes from to meeting the baby animals, farm tours are a load of fun for families. If you’re a mushroom aficionado, inquire about Oak Shade Farm’s Shiitake Day. Learn about sustainable farming focused on the American Bison at Cibola Farms. Take a self-guided walking tour to see the bison herd and explore the farm. Be sure to check out the farm store where fresh cuts of meat amongst other goods.

Taste the Local

The best tastes are readily available in spring, and our farmers market at East Davis & Commerce Streets is the place to score them! Seasonal produce, fresh meats, cheeses, and eggs are only the beginning of that you’ll find. The market is set up in May on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until noon until mid-November.

Outdoor Delights

Perfectly accessible and convenient, Lake Pelham is 255 acres of boating and in-lake fishing, and Lake Pelham Adventures is a lakeside watercraft rental company offering canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals. You’ll enjoy the scenery along the lake and how rejuvenating an afternoon on the lake can be.

Care to cast a line and see what bites? Spring Haven Farm offers a private, stocked pond for your fishing pleasure. Because it’s private, no fishing license is required! Stay the night in their on-site cabin, request a camp fire, and partake in a fly-tying class. It’s a great weekend away in Culpeper’s great outdoors.

Let's hit the pavement and try a 5K! The Wicked Bottom 5K is May 5 at Lenn Park. If a 5K sounds like more than you care to try, a 1/2-mile run run precedes it ... and it's through the vineyard! Wicked Bottom is a family-friendly event with plenty of activities for children.

Horse Competition

The Commonwealth National is the first event of the season at HITS Commonwealth Park. It’s April 17-21 and will feature a wide variety of hunter jumper classes the delight equine enthusiasts.

What are you waiting for? Spring won’t last forever! Gas up, book a room, and join us for a weekend or more of warm weather, great food, and charming hospitality.
