Oak Shade Farm in Rixeyville will hold its first Open Farm Day of the year on February 10th. Our Open Farm Days are an opportunity for old friends, new friends, nature lovers, families, individuals to come out and enjoy the farm, sit by the fire pit, and enjoy our view of the Blue Ridge mountains or walk our trails in the woods. Each farm day has a different focus on what is happening on the farm throughout the year.
February’s topic, “weaving”, will be explained and demonstrated by Jim Mello, who founded Oak Shade Farm with his wife Sally in 1985. Jim has been weaving for nearly 50 years and has become a master weaver, who uses the too cold or too rainy days of the year to work inside on the weaving loom.
March’s topic will be on Shittake Mushroom growing (more information to follow)
During our farm days we will have our farm store “The Tree House” open where we display the crafts and products that are made on the farm. These products range from our own honey to jams, beautiful wooden wares from our wood shop, fiber arts such as hooked rugs and felted crafts, paintings, beeswax candles, lavender sachets and many more…
Please feel free to come and enjoy the farm and the experience!
