Culpeper Baptist Church Celebrates History Week with a Focus on Religious Liberty

October 19 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 pm

Culpeper Baptist Church

Did you know that eleven Baptist preachers were imprisoned in Culpeper during the 1760s and 1770s simply for preaching without a license?  Did you know one of those preachers invented American bourbon or did you know another one joined the Culpeper Minutemen to fight in the American Revolution?  Or that John Leland, the second pastor of Culpeper Baptist Church, played a pivotal role in influencing James Madison to ensure that religious liberty was included in the newly drafted U.S. Constitution?

This year, Culpeper Baptist Church will join in celebrating Culpeper History Week by sharing the remarkable story of religious freedom and the town’s significant contribution to this foundational American principle.

Pastor Dan Carlton will speak on, “Culpeper’s Lock and Key: Rekindling the Story of Religious Liberty to Shape Us Today.”  In this message, the church will reflect on how the courage and conviction of early Baptists continue to inspire our community and guide our understanding of religious liberty today.

If you live in Culpeper, this is a story you’ll want to know!  Worship services will be held at 8:00 a.m. in Courtyard Commons and 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  All are welcome to attend, learn, and be inspired by the story of Culpeper’s role in securing religious liberty for generations to come.
