Independence "FUNie" Farm is located on an 88 acre farm in rural Culpeper County on land that gently slopes to wooded acreage with a beautiful stream running through it. We raise antibiotic & hormone free goats, pigs, horses, dairy cows, turkeys, & chickens. While in season, we offer a small scale pick-your-own veggies.
Unlike our lazy farm mascot, Mocha, the rest of us are pretty busy here on this beautiful property! In addition to “regular” work, we home school our two children, raise animals, and experiment with sustainable farming methods. Our goal is to share this beautiful place with others. We are landscaping, adding, building, fencing – all with the goal of providing a family-oriented, educational setting. Here you can learn about some of the sustainable agriculture practices. There is an active goat business and we are putting in an aqua-ponics and straw bale gardens. Play areas for the kids are in the works as well as a classroom and farm gift shop. You can come for a picnic, stroll along the trails, enjoy the gurgling creeks, and play with some of the animals.
Here at Independence FUNie Farm, we are also busy developing our new education business, Local Stew U (LSU) will offer science enrichment programs for youth, as well as a teacher education workshops and seminars. The goal of LSU is to bring the world of ocean science and research inland to our rural and agricultural areas. The science and adventure club, Orange Explorers is part of that program as well and offers free, local field trips, workshops and learning adventures for club members! For folks who are thinking about unschooling or interest based learning, are new to it or just have questions in general we offer some of our own experiences and insights on our Embody Learning site.
