culpeper county library
THE
CULPEPER COUNTY LIBRARY has a special collection of Civil War books,
including a number of rare titles, and local history books. For those
who wish to research their family history, there is a section dedicated
to genealogy. Records
are also available at the County Courthouse.
The Culpeper County Library was organized in 1926 through the efforts of Lucille Nelson Penniman and Mary William Tucker. Miss Crimora Waite was appointed the first official librarian, and served in that capacity for over 50 years. In 1963, the first library building was constructed. In 1996, the library became an agency of the County of Culpeper, and plans were made to construct a new facility. Our present, fully-computerized library opened to the public on March 25, 1998.
Over 69,000 volumes of both reference and recreational reading for patrons of all ages, and approximately 150 magazine titles and newspapers are contained in the library's current collection. The library subscribes to numerous online databases for magazines, encyclopedias, reference books and newspapers.
