Rolling countryside and rivers deliver outdoor fun in
Culpeper, but that’s not the half of it. Toss in excellent field-to-fork
dining, tasty craft beer and wine, and one of the most unique stays in
Virginia, and that’s one well-rounded weekend for two for your Instagram feed.
The Inn atKelly’s Ford is an escape that includes horseback riding, dining, river
fun, and even a silo for sleeping. While you won’t truly “hit the hay” when you
check into The Silo Suite, you will be treated to a two-story reprieve with a
full wall of windows overlooking the farm. The spiral staircase leads up to a
king-size bed and private bathroom with just enough room for two. Breakfast is
included with your stay, and it can even be delivered to your suite. Breakfast
in bed with the sun’s rays pouring in is a delightful way to start the day.
If and when you can break away from the privacy of the silo,
horseback riding and river fun await … all of it on the grounds of Inn at Kelly’s
Ford. Speed date the horses of the farm to choose your companion for a one hour
guided trail ride across the 138 acres, part of the Civil War 1863 Battle at
Lunch taken on the patio at Pelham’s Pub is
a treat. Overlooking the farm, it’s a quiet place to bask in the company of the
one you love. A nice selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and
entrees are available.
As the day heats up, the Rappahannock River calls. Choose
your mode of transportation -- canoe, kayak, or tube -- then set off for a
three-mile float. It’s one of the most serene ways to enjoy an afternoon.
Back at the silo suite, shower and shave to head out for a
craft beer experience at OldTrade Brewery. Owner and brewer Garrett Thayer has harnessed American,
English, and Belgian-style beer making processes to create his very own line of
craft beer. Enjoy a flight by the fire pit before your reservation at Grass Rootes in
downtown Culpeper, a real treat for anyone who loves farm-fresh, authentic
flavors in a revitalized, historic, industrial space.
After a great night of relaxation and rest, rise for another
awesome Inn at Kelly’s Ford breakfast. Revel in the country atmosphere before
check-out, then do a little winery hopping.
Gray GhostVineyards sits on 20 historic acres in Amissville and pours internationally
acclaimed Virginia wine. Tours are by reservation but the tasting room opens at
11 a.m. Nearby NarmadaWinery is also a 20-acre vineyard serving a nice range of award-winning
wines. They, too, open at 11 a.m. and make available small plate food pairings
with your tasting.
Cheers to a memorable weekend for two in Culpeper!
