EXPLORING THE COUNTRYSIDE by bicycle is a very enjoyable way to go. It gives you the time to absorb the beauty of the scenery that surrounds Culpeper, to smell the fresh air, and feel the wind in your hair. Culpeper is a great starting point for bike rides, along paved roads as well as gravel roads. Below are just a few options:
Leaving from Downtown Culpeper you can head in different ways: toward Brandy Station through more flat countryside, toward Catalpa and Rixeyville through more rolling hills, or toward Rapidan following the railway track for part of the way.
Drive to Mountain Run Lake (see Parks) and leave your car at the parking area. From here, you can bike some great riding trails through the rolling hills of Culpeper, where you will experience some awesome views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
All rides can be as short as one or two hours, or last the entire day.
If you have your own bicycles, please bring them with you. Otherwise, Culpeper's
bike store, The
Bike Stop, rents road bikes and mountain bikes. You will find an extensive list of bike rides in the Culpeper area on their website, www.rideva.com, showing route description, level of experience, and an altitude profile for each trip. The Central Area Mountain Bike Organization (CAMBO) is a non-profit organization whose goal is trail access, development, and rider education. Their website, www.cambomtb.com, also provides good information on trails throughout the area. In addition, the Culpeper
Visitors Center has bike ride lists available.
